01 Who We Are

The Services are operated by Elizabeth Rider International, Inc., doing business as Butler, Butler Kitchen, and ButlerKitchen.com, in Seattle, Washington, USA.

02 Information We Collect

Required account information

• Email address: Required to create and access a Butler account.
• Authentication information: Authentication identifiers, one-time passcodes, and secure tokens issued through Firebase Authentication. Butler uses email-based one-time passcodes rather than traditional passwords and does not store passwords.

Optional information you choose to provide

• Meal preferences, including dietary choices, dislikes, allergies, and intolerances
• Nutrition goals and dietary targets
• User-generated content, including saved recipes, grocery lists, meal plans, fridge or pantry images, AI chat messages, and support communications

You can use Butler without completing every optional preference or goal field, although features may be less personalized when optional information is not provided.

Information collected automatically

We may collect device and usage information such as device type, operating system, browser type, IP address, referring page, pages visited, app or website interactions, crash information, and date and time of access. We may also collect campaign parameters and attribution information when you arrive through an advertisement, referral partner, or promotional offer.

We do not collect precise GPS location.

Cookies, pixels, and similar technologies

Our website and promotional pages may use cookies, pixels, or similar technologies to keep the Services working, measure campaign performance, understand whether an offer led to a purchase, and prevent fraud. These technologies may be provided by advertising, attribution, analytics, or referral partners. The information collected depends on the technology and your browser or device settings.

Payment information

Web purchases: Web payments are processed by Stripe and subscription access may be administered through RevenueCat. Butler does not store complete payment card numbers.

In-app purchases: If you subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, payment information is collected and processed by the applicable platform. Butler and RevenueCat receive transaction and subscription information needed to verify and manage your access, but do not receive your complete payment card details.

03 How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

• Operate and maintain the Services and authenticate users securely
• Generate personalized meal plans, recipe recommendations, and text responses
• Analyze fridge and pantry images that you choose to submit
• Process purchases, verify subscription status, and provide account support
• Measure referral and marketing campaign performance
• Detect fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical problems
• Send transactional and marketing emails, with an option to opt out

Legal basis under GDPR and UK GDPR: Depending on the processing activity, we process data to perform our contract with you, with your consent, to comply with legal obligations, and for legitimate interests such as securing and improving the Services and measuring our marketing.

04 Artificial Intelligence & Third-Party Data Processing

Butler uses third-party AI service providers, currently including OpenAI, to support features such as recipe generation, meal planning, text recommendations, and analysis of fridge and pantry images that users choose to submit. Butler may add, replace, or change AI providers as the Services evolve. We evaluate providers and configurations based on factors that include functionality, reliability, security, privacy, and contractual protections.

Butler does not generate recipe images. Recipe images displayed inside Butler are real recipe photographs.

• Data processing: When you choose to use an AI feature, information needed to provide that feature, such as optional dietary preferences, fridge or pantry images, or chat inputs, may be transmitted to the AI provider for processing.
• Disclosure and permission: Butler provides disclosures and permission prompts required by applicable law and the rules of the Apple App Store and Google Play before personal data is shared with an external AI provider.
• Current model-training practice: Butler does not currently use Butler account data, personal data, or user-generated content to train Butler-owned or third-party general-purpose AI models.
• Possible future changes: Our AI practices may evolve. Before using personal data or user-generated content for a materially new AI-training purpose, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any notice and obtain any consent required by applicable law and platform rules. An update to this policy by itself will not override consent requirements that apply to the new use.

05 Data Sharing & Third Parties

Butler does not sell or rent personal data as a product, and we do not provide personal data to data brokers. We disclose limited information only as needed to operate, secure, measure, and support the Services, including to:

• Infrastructure and authentication: Firebase Authentication and AWS, including EC2, RDS, and S3
• AI services: OpenAI and any other AI service providers we may use in the future
• Payments and subscriptions: Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple, and Google Play
• Email: Amazon SES and Kit (ConvertKit)
• Analytics, advertising, attribution, and referrals: measurement and campaign partners, including Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, and Nift when you use a Nift promotional offer. These tools may receive information such as pages viewed, browser or device information, IP address, referral information, and campaign interactions. Butler does not send your allergies, health goals, saved recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, or fridge and pantry content to advertising pixels.
• Legal and safety: authorities, professional advisers, or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud, or enforce our agreements
• A future business transfer: a buyer, successor, investor, or adviser involved in a potential or completed merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of Butler or relevant business assets

These providers may process information under their own terms and privacy policies where they act as independent controllers.

If Butler ever changes hands

Selling Butler as a company is different from selling customer data as a product. We are not currently planning to sell Butler, but businesses can evolve. If Butler or the part of our business that provides the Services is ever acquired, reorganized, financed, merged, or sold, information may transfer with the business as part of that transaction. Any successor would be expected to handle personal information consistently with this Privacy Policy unless it provides notice of a change and obtains consent where required by law.

06 International Users

Users in the EU and UK have rights to access, delete, or port their data. Data transfers to the United States are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses.

07 Data Retention & Deletion

• Account data: Retained while your account is active and as reasonably necessary for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, and support purposes.
• Removing the app: Deleting or uninstalling the Butler app from your phone does not delete your Butler account or the information associated with it.
• Initiating account deletion in the app: Use the “Delete Account” option in App Settings to initiate deletion of your account and associated personal data. We may use an email-based one-time passcode or another reasonable step to verify and confirm the request.
• If you already uninstalled Butler: Visit our account-deletion page or email support@ButlerKitchen.com, preferably from the email address connected to your account. We may need to verify your identity.
• Deletion timing: Verified deletion requests are completed within 30 days, subject to limited legal or operational retention requirements. We will confirm completion.
• Subscription note: Deleting your Butler account does not automatically cancel a subscription purchased through Apple, Google Play, Stripe, or another payment provider. You must cancel with the provider through which you subscribed.
• Content deletion: User-deleted content is removed from active databases. Backup systems may retain data for a limited period before permanent deletion.

08 Your Choices

• Email marketing: Opt out using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email.
• Push notifications: Disable them through your device or app settings.
• Cookies and similar technologies: Adjust available controls through your browser or device. Blocking some technologies may affect site functionality or attribution.
• Account and data deletion: Initiate deletion in App Settings or use our web deletion pathway if you no longer have the app. Uninstalling the app by itself is not a deletion request.
• Privacy requests: Contact us to request access, correction, deletion, portability, or another right available under applicable law.

09 Children’s Privacy

Butler is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Users under 18 require parental supervision.

10 Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your information. No system can guarantee absolute security.

11 Third-Party Links

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services linked from the Services, such as external recipe blogs.

12 California Privacy Rights

We do not sell personal information for money. California residents may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain information about certain disclosures of personal information and may exercise applicable rights by contacting support@ButlerKitchen.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

13 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated by email. Minor updates will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date.
